Students who wish to enroll in the LSU School of Music must be admissible to Louisiana State University and successfully pass an audition with the School of Music. This process is conducted simultaneously.
Music merit scholarships are only awarded to students pursuing a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, or Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. Scholarships range from partial to full-tuition, and may be combined with additional awards. Scholarship decisions are primarily based on the audition.
(The audition form must be completed in one sitting. Applicants will select their audition date preference on the form.)
Undergraduate applicants should submit their application by November 15 to receive priority consideration for scholarships.
Applicants must complete their audition by March 1. Auditions are schedule by the end of December, based on the students preferred date/means as indicated on their audition form.
The application deadline for Spring enrollment is November 1.
All Spring applicants must audition by December 15.
Audition are scheduled individually through the respective area coordinator or instrumental faculty member.
Alternatively, applicants may submit a recorded video audition via Acceptd.

An additional audition is not required, but strongly recommended for students applying for the Experimental Music & Digital Media program.
The on-campus audition date for Fall 2017 applicants are:
- January 28
- February 4
- February 25
All students are strongly encouraged to audition on January 28 – National Audition Weekend – which offers opportunities to attend LSU music classes, rehearsals and a school-wide performance. Students are also encouraged to attend the LSU Kickoff event on Friday, January 27.
Students in need of scheduling an alternative date should contact their respective area coordinator or instrumental faculty member to arrange an alternative date and time.
Prospective students interested in minoring in music, may also audition during the first week of classes. If desired, music minor applicants should contact their respective area coordinator or instrumental faculty member.
Participation in Ensembles Only
Prospective students only interested in auditioning for participation in an ensemble do not need to audition . Students interested in auditioning for participation in ensembles will audition during the first week of classes. Students can feel free to contact those ensemble directors directly for additional information.
Live auditions are strongly encouraged. However, students that are unable to audition live may submit video recorded auditions. The recording MUST be a video and submitted via Acceptd. All recorded auditions require a $30 system fee paid through Acceptd.

An applicant whose native language is not English and/or who has been educated outside of the U.S. in a country or province where English is not the only official language must demonstrate proof of English proficiency by submitting either a TOEFL or an IELTS score.
