LSU Alumna Zoie Reams Will Study with Houston Grand Opera Starting Fall 2016
The College of Music and Dramatic Arts at LSU is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Zoie Reams as a young studio artist of the Houston Grand Opera. Ms. Reams, a second year Masters of Music student studying opera at Louisiana State University’s School of Music, competed with six hundred young aspiring singers from opera and voice programs nationwide to win a highly coveted opportunity to study and perform with some of America’s top opera singers at the Houston Grand Opera. Ms. Reams, who recently graduated from the LSU School of Music, won second place in this year’s HGO Studio contest. “Zoie Reams is the next star in a long line of successful opera singers from LSU. We are so proud of Zoie and her accomplishments, and look forward to seeing her career develop next year with HGO.” says Dr. Todd Queen, Dean of LSU’s College of Music & Dramatic Arts.
Houston Grand Opera, one of America’s top opera companies, offers a highly respected HGO Studio Young Artist Program. For over thirty years, it has provided young singers, who aspire to make opera their life’s work, a training and performance opportunity that offers real world opera exposure. After an annual nationwide search, a hand-selected group of talented singers compete for a few spots to work alongside the best at Houston Grand Opera. In main-stage productions and other venues, these future opera artists hone their craft as singing actors. During a two-three year residency, each performer receives customized training from an expert team while gaining invaluable, high level performance experience. According to Dennis Jesse, Zoie’s voice professor at LSU, “Zoie’s level of talent was apparent from the first time I heard her at La Musica Lirica in Italy. Her commitment to her vocal advancement and the challenges we have given her at LSU will only enhance the experiences that await her with this distinguished American Opera company.” Alumni of HGO Studio Young Artist Program currently perform at premiere opera houses worldwide.
