Evelyn K. Orman is the Julian R. & Sidney Nicolle Carruth Professor of Music Education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She teaches courses in Music Education, Music Education Technology, Music Education Research, Philosophy of Music Education, and Psychology of Music. Dr. Orman’s research publications appear in leading journals for Music Education, Band Research, Distance Education, Music Psychology and Music Therapy and she regularly presents results of her research at professional meetings including the National Association for Music Education, the International Symposium for Research in Music Behavior, and the International Society of Music Education Research Commission and World Conference.
She has served on the editorial board for Update: Applications of Research in Music Education and currently serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Research in Music Education. She has presented results of her research throughout the United States as well as in Portugal, Italy, China, Spain, Greece, Brazil and currently serves as the United States Commissioner for the International Society of Music Education Research Commission.
Professor Orman has served as director of bands at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels. Prior to her present position, she taught at the University of West Alabama and George Mason University following advanced study at the National Conservatory of Music, Bordeaux, France and degrees from Murray State University, the University of Central Florida, and the University of Alabama, where she completed the Ed.D. in music education.
