Mission statement: The Music and Dramatic Arts College Council serves as a liaison between Music and Dramatic Arts students, faculty, staff,and Student Government. A core value and passion of the Council is improving student’s college experience. By raising money, putting on interactive events, and publicizing talents, the Council provides open lines of communication for student voices to be heard.

American Choral Directors Association

The American Choral Directors Association is a professional, nonprofit music-education organization. The goal of the organization is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. It also works to improve choral music’s position in American society. The organization was founded in 1959.

CMDA College Council

The College Council for the College of Music & Dramatic Arts is a division of Student Government at LSU. Councils usually consist of five representatives, who are elected at Student Government’s spring and fall elections.

Kappa Kappa Psi

Kappa Kappa Psi is an honorary service fraternity that serves the college or university band programs through service projects, fundraisers, social events, and other projects as needed. The fraternity is located at more than 150 colleges and universities.

The Beta Gamma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi was formed at LSU on May 16, 1948. In 1988, the chapter merged with LSU’s chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, the national honorary service sorority for college bands, and created one co-ed organization. The Beta Gamma chapter primarily serves the LSU Tiger Marching Band but also serves the School of Music’s other performing ensembles. Students interested in becoming members may join in either the spring or fall semesters.

NAfME: The National Association for Music Education

The NAfME: The National Association for Music Education, works to advance music education by encouraging the study and making of music by all. The organization was founded 95 years ago with 64 members. Today’s membership exceeds 90,000.

Sigma Alpha Iota

Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), an international music fraternity for women, was organized in 1903 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The organization and its members foster interests in music and promote social contact among persons sharing this interest. The Sigma Phi chapter was founded at LSU in 1926.

The Sigma Phi chapter recruits new members during both the fall and spring semesters. LSU students interested in joining SAI must be enrolled as a full-time student, must have taken at least one music course, must have a minimum of a 2.5 grade-point average, and must have a great love of music. Students may not join during their first semesters but are encouraged to apply for admission during their following semesters.
