The LSU Wind Ensemble kicks off the new season with an exciting concert led by new Director of Bands Damon Talley. The concert will feature both full ensemble and chamber ensemble music, music written 200 years ago as well as music written just two years ago. The concert concludes with an exciting composition by Donald Grantham, J'ai ete au bal, featuring Cajun and Zydeco music native to the area. Song Reader Symphony by Beck Hansen, Orchestration by Brett William Dietz. Guest conductor will be LSU's Brett Dietz. Soloist: Loraine Sims of the LSU voice faculty. Reflections on the Mississippi for tuba and orchestra by Michael Daugherty will feature LSU soloist Joseph Skillen, and conductor Carlos Riazuelo for the first performance of this piece in Louisiana. Program also includes Pictures of an exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel; Conductor Carlos Riazuelo; Audio-visual presentation by Jeffrey Perry.
